Could this be Lenovo's first NAS? A proof of concept for network-attached storage has emerged, featuring two Type-C connectors and a dedicated Ethernet port

Lenovo presented a 3.5-inch mock-up of an 'AI storage device', which could be a portable SSD, a NAS, or something new Not a product announcement, but a proof of concept But presence of a red ring on one of the ports may indicate that it will be a ThinkStorage product Lenovo has unveiled a new concept device at CES called "AI Storage" , which could be the company’s first AI-assisted NAS (Network Attached Storage). The apparent prototype features a minimalist, space-efficient design with ventilation grilles on the right side for either active or passive cooling. The 3.5-inch mock-up could be more than a traditional NAS , in that it might also function as a portable SSD, or serve an entirely new purpose, blurring the lines between storage and AI integration. A smarter future for storage? The concept image shows that this device will support a standard RJ45 Ethernet port accompanied by dual status LEDs. These could indicate active connectivity or possibly its ...

The rise of RISC: 2025 will be the year of the first quasi-mainstream RISC-V laptop as confirmed by the CEO of Framework but I don't think it will be ready for primetime

Modular laptop vendor Framework said it will launch a RISC-V product in 2025 RISC-V is the equivalent of Linux for hardware, open source and free More tech companies are adopting but it has yet to hit mainstream in a meaningful way RISC-V, an open source ISA developed at the University of California, Berkeley in 2010, has steadily been gaining attention as a customizable alternative to proprietary ISAs like x86 and Arm. Its license-free approach allows manufacturers to create and modify processors without restrictions, leading to adoption in various specialized applications, and this year could mark a key step toward broader consumer adoption of the architecture. For RISC-V to truly reach the mainstream, it still needs to gain traction in the laptop market. Hong Kong–based DeepComputing introduced the first RISC-V notebook, the Roma, in 2023, followed by the DC-Roma II in 2024, which shipped with Ubuntu Linux pre-installed. While praised for its open-source flexibility, the ...

Say hello to HaLow: Wi-Fi routers that can send 250Mbps across 10 miles (yes, 10 miles) have been demoed at CES 2025 and I'm very excited

At CES 2025, Morse Micro presented a working demo of a HaLow router that can deliver data at up to 250Mbps in a 10-mile radius TechRadar first covered HaLow back in 2016, but the technology is only just maturing HaLow's long range without the need for a repeater could be attractive for commercial setups The future of Wi-Fi technology may have taken a major leap forward at CES 2025 with the debut of Wi-Fi HaLow routers from Morse Micro. Its new prototype (via Yanko Design ) boasts a 10-mile range, potentially making a home Wi-Fi network available locally. Unlike conventional routers which can struggle to penetrate walls when operating at 2.4GHz and 5GHz, HaLow’s sub-GHz frequency waves travel through obstacles, offering reliable connectivity across a distance. HaLow’s roots: From concept to reality Designed to operate on the 900MHz band, HaLow was created for low-power, long-range connectivity. Potential use-cases include industrial setups as well as connecting to Inter...

I can't wait to test the world's first 8TB PCIe 5.0 SSD, and I'm sure this one won't be too expensive

Teamgroup's 8TB PCIe 5.0 SSD will be the first of its kind to hit the market The T-Force GE Pro won't top the best PCIe 5.0 SSD but should be fast enough for most use cases Samsung, XPG and Crucial have demoed 8TB PCIe 5.0 SSDs but none have gone on sale TEAMGROUP has announced the T-FORCE GE PRO PCIe 5.0 SSD , which is on track to be the first of its kind to be commercially available. Though Samsung, XPG, Micron and Crucial have all showcased 8TB PCIe 5.0 SSDs in the past, none have hit the market. The device comes with read and write speeds of 13,500 MB/s and 11,000 MB/s respectively, while the company claims it is designed for gamers, content creators, and other professionals who need ultra-fast storage solutions. Optimized cooling for sustained performance The T-FORCE GE PRO tackles heat management with its patented graphene heatsink to enhances dissipation. The company also adds the T-FORCE AirFlow1 SSD Cooler with active cooling, and this ensures sustained ...

Security experts are being targeted with fake malware discoveries

Trend Micro spots piece of malware being advertised as PoC fork for a major Windows vulnerability The malware acts as an infostealer, grabbing vital system information These types of attacks are often conducted by nation-states Cybercriminals are targeting security researchers with fake proof-of-concept (PoC) solutions, trying to infect their computers with infostealing malware , experts have warned. Cybersecurity researchers Trend Micro, who spotted the new campaign in January 2025, noted how the crooks would publish a PoC for a popular, critical-severity vulnerability, to draw the attention of the cybersecurity crowd. The researchers would then grab the PoC for analysis, and would end up installing a piece of malware, instead. Stealing vital PC information In this particular case, the crooks were advertising a fork of a legitimate, existing PoC for LDAPNightmare, a vulnerability discovered earlier in January, and consisting of two flaws, CVE-2024-49112, and CVE-2024-49113...
