Google has begun rolling out a new safety update for Android phones to inform users if a Bluetooth tracking device has been placed near or on them. Gadgets like the Apple AirTag are meant to help people find lost items, but some bad actors have been misusing them as an inexpensive tool to stalk people . Although Google doesn’t sell its own Bluetooth tags, it teamed up with multiple corporations to tackle this problem, and this patch is the result of their labor. Moving forward, your Android phone will automatically notify you if it sees an unknown Bluetooth tracker “traveling with you.” Tapping the on-screen notification opens a map telling you where it was placed on you and the path you have taken since. There will be a Play Sound button you can tap to have the device “make a noise to help you locate it without” alerting any bad actors.  At this point, Unknown Tracker Alerts only work with the AirTags, but there are plans to expand the protective feature to similar products...

As if they weren’t already packed enough, Sony has recently launched a firmware update giving its WH-1000XM5 headphones and WF-1000XM5 wireless earbuds even more features. Starting with the headphones, firmware version 2.0.2 introduces two things. First, it allows LDAC to be available during a multipoint Bluetooth connection. LDAC , if you don’t know, is Sony's proprietary audio codec that’s able to transmit “three times more data” compared to Bluetooth. It essentially allows users to stream high-quality, lossless audio content. The problem was owners of the XM5 headphones couldn’t be connected to multiple Bluetooth devices and listen to Hi-Res music at the same time. WhatsApp is introducing Instant Video Messages to its platform which, as you can probably guess, allows people to send short video messages to chats. According to the platform , you have up to 60 seconds to say whatever you want, be it wishing a friend happy birthday wish or giving them good news. Recording a video works similarly to recording an audio message. All you have to do is tap the microphone icon in the bottom corner to turn it into the camera option. Pressing and holding the button records the clip. Swiping up on the camera icon after holding it locks the video for a hands-free recording. There are a couple of things you need to be aware of regarding the new feature. First, the videos will play without any sound although tapping the screen unmutes them. Second, the messages don’t take up the whole screen as they’re confined to a circular space . It’s a big enough view for most recordings, but be aware the sides of the clip will be cut off.
