Mobvoi teases new Apple Watch doppelganger coming at MWC 2022

We're on the eve of annual Spanish technology conference MWC 2022 , and loads of brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo and Realme have all confirmed to be holding keynotes conferences or product launches. Throwing its hat in the ring early is Mobvoi, which makes TicWatch smartwatches, as the company has begun teasing a new device coming March 1 (right at the end of the conference) on its social media channels. We can tell this smartwatch is somewhat of an Apple Watch lookalike, based on the shape of its body and the crown on the edge. There's also a green shining light - some of the social media teasers talk about heart rate, so presumably it relates to a way of scanning your heartbeat. ⏰ Save the Date - 9:00 AM EST, Mar. 1st 2022 ⏰ Meet our NEW TicWatch featuring Arty® - a new way to define your heart health.🎁 How much do you know about #hearthealth? GHD Unplugged vs Dyson Corrale: which cordless hair straightener should you choose?

Image
Whether you want to smooth out curly locks, or even create soft waves in your tresses, a hair straightener (yes, they straighten, but can curl too) is a versatile styling tool. They’ve been around since the 1980s, but it wasn’t until the early 2000’s that their popularity rose thanks to salon-brand GHD.  Now, they’re a staple when it comes to styling your hair.  Until recently, most hair straighteners (also known as flat irons) were mains-powered and required you to be close to an electrical socket to style your hair. However, both GHD and Dyson have since launched a set of cordless hair straighteners that let you touch-up your style no matter where you are.  You probably know that Dyson was first to launch its Corrale cordless hair straighteners in 2020, while GHD only unveiled its first battery-operated flat irons in 2021, and they’re $200/ £100/ AU$225 cheaper than Dyson’s offering - but how do they compare? We pitted the Dyson Corrale and the GHD Unplugged cor...

Apple patent describes a Mac that fits inside a keyboard

Image
Ideas outlined in patents don't always end up becoming actual products, but they can give us an interesting insight into what tech companies could be working on – and it would seem Apple is developing a Mac that fits inside a keyboard. This is based on a patent spotted by Patently Apple (via 9to5Mac ), entitled Computer In An Input Device. Essentially, the key components – processor, memory, storage – all get embedded inside a keyboard. The idea is that you could take this keyboard with you as you move between the home and the office (or wherever it is that you need a computer), plug it into a display, and load up macOS. It's sort of a Mac mini , in a keyboard shape. An image from the newly published patent (Image credit: Patently Apple/USPTO) Heat management Obviously, packing everything inside a keyboard means there are going to be constraints in terms of performance, local storage, and so on. But for simple, day-to-day computing tasks, it would probably work j...

Steam Deck designers promise they included as much battery as physically possible

Steam Deck designers Greg Coomer and Jay Shaw recently spoke with PC Gamer about the console and one of its most talked about features, the battery life. According to the recent iFixit Steam Deck teardown video , the battery is a 40Wh (5,313mAh) and boasts an ‘L’-shaped design, which allows it to fit in an otherwise awkward position. When asked about why that was the case Coomer responded: “We basically put as much battery as we possibly could into a device of this size, given everything else that has to fit into it.” Shaw further explained what offering a larger battery would have done for the system overall design. “I mean, then we're into the conversation of having to change the actual physical specs of the device. And then that gets into a lot of ergonomic compromises that we really didn't want to make, because chiefly we really want people to be comfortable playing this device for as long as they want to.” Considering that other options are already available for exten...

FIFA 23: everything we know so far

Image
FIFA 23 hasn't actually been announced by EA just yet but it feels like it’s almost certainly only a matter of time as the series’ annual release schedule is, at this point, pretty predictable.  What’s less predictable, though, is what the game will look like in the future, particularly where its name is concerned. EA Sports has said that it’s “exploring” the possibility of renaming the series. What that new name might be remains a mystery but it would certainly be a serious shake up for the series. A February 2022 report from VGC has suggested that FIFA 23 could be the last game in the series to bear the FIFA name.  Aside from name changes, there are currently rumors that the next game in the series – whatever it ends up being called – will be free-to-play with support for crossplay. This hasn’t been confirmed, though, and at the moment what exactly FIFA 23 will do differently, if anything, isn't known for certain.  While we wait for more official announcements fro...

How I solved Wordle #251 - spoilers for today's puzzle

Image
Winning at Wordle every day is a daily goal, but the reality is a once-a-day effort to solve a five-letter puzzle that can feel equal parts exhausting and exhilarating. Oh, those rare, solved in three, miraculous solved in two, or incredibly lucky one-and-done. It’s the four, five, and six guesses that really get you - but it’s also those journeys that teach us the most. For those unfamiliar with Wordle (but then why are you here?), The New York Times’ (recently-purchased) daily word game asks you to guess a five-letter word in six tries.  Simple right? Well, while we could just tell you the Wordle answer for today , (and yes, we have a page to do just that) it wouldn't be much use, would it? Even if it preserves your streak, it's a hollow victory - this is a game where you're only cheating yourself out of learning. What starts today is a daily (weekdays) diary of how I, someone whose very existence is predicated on a playing with and using words, solved Wordle.  Com...
